One of the few true circus Ringmistresses, Carrie Harvey has been a performer all her life. She made her stage debut at the age of nine. She trained in Musical Theatre at Guildford School of Acting and Dance, in her native England. Following graduation she began to work in Musical Theatre, played theatre classics, appeared on television, radio and many TV commercial voice-overs. Her first circus experience was working for Gerry Cottle and Dr Haze's The Circus of Horrors, directed by the late Pierrot Bidon, (the creator of the "Heavy Metal" circus Archaos). After answering a casting-call for rock singers in "The Stage", the British theatre trade newspaper, Carrie auditioned for and won the classy part of "Belinda the Bearded Wonder".

For her first circus show, Carrie had landed in an unmitigated hit. The Circus of Horrors has since enjoyed tremendous success in the United Kingdom and abroad. In 1999 “The Bloodiest Show on Earth” (as the production was subtitled) was taken out of the Big Top and reborn on the theatre stage. In 2003 the show won the Contemporary Circus Award, presented by the British entertainment trade newspaper, ‘The World’s Fair’. Thus, Carrie began her love affair with the circus. In 2000 she became the Singing Ringmistress at Peter Jay’s Hippodrome Circus in Great Yarmouth, the famous beach resort in Norfolk, England. Carrie presented Peter Jay’s first ever Christmas Extravaganza. She continued to do so for six winter seasons, and also officiated as Ringmistress for one summer season. In 2003, The World’s Fair named Carrie “Circus Personality of the Year”.

The following year Carrie took the opportunity to present a show in Spanish at the Gran Circo Mundial in Spain. Following this engagement she was offered a contract with Cirque Amar in France. Breaking the traditional French mould of ‘Monsieur Loyal’ Carrie became the first ever female presenter in French circus history. Carrie’s dream job however was further afield. It came in 2007, when she was invited to join the company of the Big Apple Circus in the United States of America, to host their 30th anniversary production ‘Celebrate’ at New York’s Lincoln Center and on tour. Carrie spent two seasons with the Big Apple Circus and had to decline an offer to renew her contract as the rest of her family were still in Europe. Carrie is married to the clown Raul Cardinali Nery, seventh generation of a celebrated Portuguese circus dynasty.

Back to Europe, Carrie presented the 3rd International Circus Festival in Tours, France, and then moved to Portugal where she began working with her husband’s family show, adding Portuguese to the list of languages she speaks! As a fluent french speaker Carrie is much in demand to host circus festivals in France. In 2014, she presented the 16th International Circus Festival at St-Paul-les-Dax, where she was awarded the Eugene Chaplin prize. In 2015, the 16th International Circus Festival at Val d’Oise. In 2016, the 24th International Circus Festival at Massy. That same year Carrie was invited to be a Member of the Jury at the 17th International Circus Festival at Val d‘Oise. On pourrait ajouter qu’elle est une véritable enfant de la balle puisqu’elle fit ses débuts sur scène dés l’âge de neuf ans. Elle suivit les cours de la Guildford School of Acting and Dance dont elle fut diplômée en 1992 en theatre musical. Elle travailla aussi pour la publicité de télévision et le théâtre. C’est comme chanteuse qu’elle va découvrir le cirque en 1999 dans le rôle de “Belinda la Femme à Barbe” au Circus of Horrors que Gerry Cottle avait créé en 1995 avec John Haze et dont la direction artistique était l’oeuvre du regretté Pierrot Bidon (du Cirque d'avant-garde 'Archaos'). Elle y restera en 2000 et participera avec ce show au Festival d’Edinbourg. Peter Jay la remarque et lui confie la présentation de sa première Christmas Circus Extravaganza à l’Hippodrome de Great Yarmouth du Décembre 2000 au Janvier 2001. Ce sera là ses débuts comme Madame Loyal.

Elle découvre la circularité du cirque et l’intimité qu’elle y trouve avec le spectateur. Durant le spectacle, elle chante le Gimme, Gimme, Gimme de Abba, pendant le numero classique-clownesque des chaises. Elle retrouvera ces galas de Noël à six reprises. En 2002 elle est au Circus of Horrors et l’Electric Circus, un autre cirque de Gerry Cottle. En 2003 elle présente le spectacle du centenaire de l’Hippodrome de Great Yarmouth et se voit attribuer par la revue World’s Fair le titre de Circus Personnality of the Year. Après un bref retour au Circus Of Horrors, elle gagne l’Espagne et présente les programmes du Gran Circo Mundial de José María González Villa. En Janvier 2005, elle fait découvrir au public français du cirque Amar son inimitable style de présentatrice sachant aller vers le public en donnant du rythme au spectacle. Elle y restera jusqu’à son départ pour New York au Big Apple Circus où elle présente Celebrate (2007/2008) et Play On (2008/2009). En Janvier 2009, elle met à profit la pause du Big Apple pour participer au Festival de Massy avec les Frères Nery. Tout juste débarquée de l’avion, elle chausse les godillots de l’auguste pour être dans l’entrée de la machine à laver automatique. Les Frères Nery obtiennent une deuxième Piste de Cristal. En Août 2009 elle revient en Europe et reprend son rôle d’auguste avec les Frères Nery au cirque Victor Hugo Cardinali au Portugal. En Novembre elle présente le 3° festival de Tours et passe les fêtes de Noël au Coliseu de Porto.

Elle a épousé Raul Cardinali Nery, auguste et magicien, descendant par sa mère Rosa de la célèbre famille portugaise Cardinali (fondée en 1880 par Luigi Cardinali) et fils du magicien Antonio Nery. Depuis plusieurs saisons elle s’exprime en portugais sur la piste du chapiteau du Circo Nery. Elle retrouvera la France avec le Cirque de Noël de Toulouse (Noël 2013) où elle remplace au pied levé le présentateur indisponible. Amoureuse de notre belle langue, en 2014 elle a eu l’opportunité de présenter le 16ème Festival des Artistes de Cirque de Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, ou elle a remporté le Prix Eugene Chaplin. En 2015, le 16ème Festival International du Cirque de Val d’Oise à Domont. En 2016, le 24ème Festival International du Cirque de Massy et cette année elle faisait partie du Jury du 17ème Festival International du Cirque du Val d’Oise. On peut dire que Carrie est la première vraie Madame Loyal que notre pays ait connue, non seulement présentatrice, mais sachant ce qui se passe derrière la rideau de piste, du montage aux convois et à la gestion d’un cirque comme celui de sa famille, le Circo Nery.
